We agreed they could bat first as they were waiting on a few players. They made a respectable 171, with Shefan D’Souza taking 2 for 16, S Buckley 2 for 24 and Gavin Seifert 2 for 21.

We batted and were 1 for 159 with Cody Fry making 71 and then 2 for 205 with Kieran Watson making 92 and batted 35.1 over for it. They batted with maturity and common sense above there years and it was a wonderful innings from both of them and I hope they can keep batting with the same maturity and I will be remembered by all there for a long time.

With a batting rotation scheme we’ve used for years I put the two top guns in the tail and it proved to be a big mistake, we were one short but all out in the 22nd over for 51 with 11 of those coming from extras.

Nathan Gill was the only bat to build an innings and even take a risk of two to make 24 runs, the rest of the team couldn’t make 30 between then. Unfortunately it was poor defence and shot selection that was our problem, people were bowled and lack of a solid defence clearly showed. What shows is the lack of proper preparation in the nets at training and making sure they bat in the nets as they would in games, the mucking around and cross bat shots just equalled out for a low score, so more sensible attitude from players is required. Every person in that side can bat to a reasonable degree and holding an end up and taking 1’s and 2’s should be achievable, here’s hoping for better efforts in future games.
